Fresh Ceramics in Neunau (Vienna) will be hosting a special masterclass with the talented ceramic artist Eugene Pokidaev. This is a rare opportunity to learn from a potter known for his creativity, technical skill and fearless approach to clay. About the teacher
Eugene Pokidaev has been working with ceramics since 2010 and has spent the past seven years refining advanced wheel-throwing techniques while also developing effective methods for teaching pottery to both beginners and experienced makers. In his teaching Eugene takes a very individual approach to each student. His goal is to help every participant move forward from wherever they currently are in their practice.

This means beginners will not feel overwhelmed, while more experienced potters will still feel challenged and engaged. If someone is still working on centering, Eugene will help them master this skill and start throwing their first stable cylinders. Participants who already have experience will focus on working with larger amounts of clay, improving the height and proportions of their forms, and exploring more complex and expressive shapes.

The aim of the workshop is for each participant to make real progress and reach their next level of skill.

About the masterclass
This five-day intensive is designed for anyone with some basic experience in wheel-throwing who wants to deepen their technique and confidence at the wheel.

You will get the most out of this masterclass if you already have some basic wheel-throwing experience. It is especially well suited for participants who have taken part in our 5-week or 9-week classes at Fresh Ceramics. If you are new to the wheel but would like to join, you still have time to take one of these classes beforehand and build the foundations needed to fully benefit from the workshop.

Over five full days we will focus on technique, experimentation and creative exploration.

Rather than concentrating on producing finished pieces, the workshop focuses on building strong throwing fundamentals. With more than 30 hours of practice at the wheel, the skills you develop will quickly become more natural and controlled.

Because this workshop focuses on developing throwing skills, many pieces created during the week will be recycled so participants can continue practicing. If there are up to three pieces you would like to keep, they can be fired and glazed later at the studio membership rate.

The masterclass will end with a relaxed farewell drink where we celebrate the week together.
