Wine & Clay Private Course Hietzing (16+)
Booking Details
By far our most popular courses are our Wine & Clay sessions. You can probably guess why … cheers! Now you can share this experience with your friends of up to 18 people in Hietzing (or up to 30 Poeple in Neubau) and celebrate together! No matter what the occasion! Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, bachelorette or stag parties! You decide. 🙂
+ What you’ll be doing
In 2 or 2.5 hours (depending on your choice) under the guidance of a course instructor, you will hand-model a piece from approximately 700 grams of clay, which will then be fired twice and glazed transparently by us. This piece is then fully functional and durable, as well as microwave and dishwasher safe. During this course there is a wine accompaniment (3 bottles of white wine per 10 people). If you have opted for the course length of 2.5 hours, you can also paint and decorate your pieces with special underglazes. With the construction technique you will learn how to make your own individual vessel; be it a vase, a plant container, a cup or something that only you know. During the course you will learn the basic techniques of coil technique, which everyone who wants to start modeling needs. 🙂
You are always welcome to bring your own snacks, drinks and decorations. That’s entirely up to you.

Private events, including Kindergeburtstage, are reserved exclusively for your group. Once a booking is confirmed, the regular course scheduled for that time is closed to ensure a truly private and dedicated experience. For this reason, cancellations or rescheduling are not possible after booking. We kindly ask you to choose your date and time carefully before completing your reservation.
Once you are happy with the design of your work, we will make sure that your ceramic dries properly. After one or two days, your pieces are turned upside down to dry completely. At the same time, we will retouch and label them.
Depending on the thickness of your creation, it can take 5 - 8 days before they are ready for the kiln. They are then fired at 960 degrees in the kiln. Reaching this temperature and slow cooling takes up to 28 hours. Once the first firing is complete, you will glaze the pieces with our high-temperature glazes on the second day of your course and then they will be placed in the kiln again, this time to be fired at 1200 degrees. After a further 36 hours, your piece is finished and can come out of the kiln. It is now durable and fully functional, which means you can now put it in the microwave and dishwasher.
In total, the ceramic pieces are ready for collection from the respective studio 3 weeks after the last day of the course. They are then sorted by surname on our shelves. Please come by during our opening hours and pick them up.
In the case of a rescheduling or cancellation, you will find the corresponding instructions under the first question “How can I reschedule my course?”
Important: Rescheduling requests via email, phone or in person cannot be accepted and are therefore invalid.
On the one hand, there is wheel throwing, where pieces are created on the electric pottery wheel. The resulting objects are characteristically round, symmetrical and thin. On the other hand, there is modeling and shaping clay by hand at the worktable. This includes coiling, pinch technique and slab technique. Here you are not bound to the round base shape created by the wheel and can freely express your creativity.
However, shorter nails – and for pottery wheel courses also a hair tie for longer hair as well as clothes that may get a little dirty – are an advantage. If despite the aprons some clay or glaze gets onto your clothing, don’t worry, both can be easily washed out.
We keep already glazed course pieces in our pickup shelves for 3 months. After that, due to space limitations, they are sorted into monthly boxes where we can no longer guarantee completeness or condition. Every year before Christmas, we donate all remaining pieces that have been with us for more than one year to “Aktion Leben” to bring joy to someone else. :)
