With Coffee&Clay for beginners there is now a suitable addition to Wine&Clay, for all those who do not have the opportunity to take a course on Friday evenings & would like to experience the great atmosphere in the studio.

+ What you will do
In this 2,5 hour class, you’ll perfect your own ceramic creation under the guidance of our experienced ceramists*. It’s fun, cozy, and everyone makes their own coffee mug! We will learn the basic techniques of hand modeling while making a fully functional piece of dinnerware. In this class, you’ll not only work on the shape of your coffee cup, but you’ll also try out engobes – the special underglaze paint that you can apply directly to the raw clay. This gives you endless possibilities to make your cup the cutest piece in the world: little flowers, hearts, stripes, vegetables… You can make your own ideas or get inspired by ours!

When your piece is finished, it will be very durable, food safe, dishwasher and microwave safe!

+ Behind the Scenes
After you’re done working on your piece, we make sure the conditions are right for your piece to dry properly – after a day or two, we turn it upside down and write your initials on it. Depending on the thickness of your creation, it will take 3-10 days to dry completely. Once it’s dry, we fire it at 960 degrees – reaching the proper temperature and cooling takes about 28 hours. After the initial “raw” firing, we dip your piece in the transparent glaze and place it in the kiln again – this time to fire at 1220 degrees. After another 36 hours, your piece is beautiful, shiny, very durable, and fully functional. You can now use it every day, put it in the dishwasher and be proud of yourself. 🙂
