+ Program of the course
In the first unit, we will focus on the process of centering. In the second week, we will concentrate solely on making a cylinder, which is an important basis for all further steps. In the next unit, we create our cylinders and then take care of the shaping so that we end up with cups and bowls. In week four, we refine the already leather-hard pieces. Handles are attached and the undersides are turned. In week 5, we turn our attention back to the cylinder and shape it into tins with their own lids. The following week, we turn the pieces again and refine them. In week 7, we repeat the whole process and this time form vases and plates. The following week we finish these pieces by turning and retouching them again. We then use the final week to glaze all the pieces to turn them into fully functional ceramics.
9 finished pieces are included in the price. Each additional piece costs 12,00 Euro extra.
+ Length of the course units
Our 9-week course with Anita includes weekly, four-hour lessons with our experienced instructor, who will hold your hand every step of the way – literally if necessary. The whole course is repeated a total of 9 times.
+ The course schedule
In our calendar you can see the start date of the courses. Click on the corresponding date and you will see a schedule for the entire course.
Day 1 – Centering & Co
The first day of this course is all about centering the clay on the wheel, one of the most important and demanding techniques of this craft. We will also show you the correct kneading and other preparation techniques, which are the cornerstones of pottery.
Day 2 – Pottering cylinders
After we have successfully centered our clay, we will devote ourselves to creating a cylinder. This is a further basis for all future steps that will follow.
Day 3 – Shaping cups and bowls
Now that you have practiced the basics, it’s time to shape them. Your first piece of pottery will take shape. We create cups and bowls.
Day 4 -Turning, handles and finishing
In this final unit, we will take care of the underside of your pottery and slip handles onto the leather-hard cups.
Day 5 – Shaping a pot with a lid
On this day, we will return to the basics of creating a cylinder and then concentrate on shaping it to make cans. We will also make matching lids.
Day 6 – Turning, retouching and finishing
In this session we will finish the turned jars and matching lids by adding a foot and cleaning the underside.
Day 7 – Shaping vases and plates
On this day we will make our own vases and plates. We concentrate on the basics again and then turn our attention to the precise shaping.
Day 8 – Turning, retouching and finishing
Here we turn the vases and plates you have made. We also take care of the underside and finish the pieces.
Day 9 – Glazing
After all your dried pieces have been fired at 960° degrees, you come back to our studio and we show you the technique of glazing. This step has great potential, because the individual coloring will make your ceramics absolutely unique.
+ Can I postpone an appointment?

If you cannot make it to an appointment, we are unfortunately unable to offer catch-up lessons. However, you can use our open studio free of charge for the time you have missed and practise on your own. If you have any questions, we are of course nearby

In the case of a rescheduling or cancellation, you will find the corresponding instructions under the first question “How can I reschedule my course?”
Important: Rescheduling requests via email, phone or in person cannot be accepted and are therefore invalid.
On the one hand, there is wheel throwing, where pieces are created on the electric pottery wheel. The resulting objects are characteristically round, symmetrical and thin. On the other hand, there is modeling and shaping clay by hand at the worktable. This includes coiling, pinch technique and slab technique. Here you are not bound to the round base shape created by the wheel and can freely express your creativity.
However, shorter nails – and for pottery wheel courses also a hair tie for longer hair as well as clothes that may get a little dirty – are an advantage. If despite the aprons some clay or glaze gets onto your clothing, don’t worry, both can be easily washed out.
We keep already glazed course pieces in our pickup shelves for 3 months. After that, due to space limitations, they are sorted into monthly boxes where we can no longer guarantee completeness or condition. Every year before Christmas, we donate all remaining pieces that have been with us for more than one year to “Aktion Leben” to bring joy to someone else. :)
