5-Day Pottery course Neubau (+14)

Would you like to immerse yourself in the world of pottery on the wheel? And preferably for several days in a row? Perfect – we have just the thing for you!

+ Program of the course
On the first two days we will focus on the wonderfully frustrating and mesmerizing process of centering and how to turn your lump of clay into a work of art.

On the third day, we will learn the basics of pottery, from basic shapes to cylinders and bowls or vases.  In the fourth unit, the already leather-hard pieces are refined. Handles are attached and the undersides are retouched.  The last day is then used for painting with underglazes, also known as engobes, to transform your masterpieces into fully functional ceramics. Small details and decorations can be drawn onto your piece with these special paints.

5 finished pieces, which are fired twice and glazed transparently by us, are included in the price. Each additional piece costs 12,00 Euro extra

Our 5-day course includes daily, two-and-a-half-hour lessons with an experienced instructor who will hold your hand every step of the way – literally if necessary. The whole thing is repeated 5 times

This course is ideal for people with no experience, but also for those who have already had a few lessons but need a refresher to improve their technique.

Day 1 – Centering
The first day of this course is all about centering the clay on the wheel – one of the most important and challenging techniques of this craft. We will also show you the correct kneading and other preparation techniques, which are the cornerstones of pottery.

Day 2 – Making cylinders
After we have successfully centered our clay, we dedicate ourselves to creating a cylinder. This is another foundation for all future steps that will follow.

Day 3 – Bowls / Cups
Now that you have learned the basics, it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty of shaping.

Day 4 – Turning, handles and finishing
In the last unit, we take care of the backs of the potted works and slip handles onto the leather-hard pieces.

Day 5 – Painting with engobes  
This step has great potential, because the individual coloring makes your ceramics absolutely unique. In this unit, you can decorate your pieces with small details using special underglazes, also known as engobes.

+ Can I postpone an appointment?
The course takes place over 5 consecutive days, always on the same date at the same time. If you are unable to make it to a date, we unfortunately cannot offer catch-up lessons. However, you can use our open studio free of charge for the time you missed and practise on your own. If you have any questions, we are of course nearby.
